Why do performing artists end up injured?
As audiences, we typically associate the performing arts with leisure, beauty, and emotional pleasure. For this reason, it can be difficult to understand why the majority of artists — even those engaged in seemingly low-impact disciplines — suffer injuries at some point in their careers.
La Fundació Ciència i Art actively works to bring this reality to light and help society understand why these injuries arise:
"Performing artists must begin training at very young ages and sustain demanding practice routines throughout their professional lives. In most instances, working postures and extreme repetition exceed the human body's natural mechanical limits. Playing an instrument, dancing, or acting is not simply the result of magical talent; it requires colossal dedication, and all too often, the artist's body or mind pays an exacting price."
The Science and Art Concerts
To generate widespread public and media awareness, the Foundation established the acclaimed benefit series of the Concerts Ciència i Art. By convening celebrated artists of national and international stature, these concerts created a prominent platform to communicate vital messages on health and injury prevention in the performing arts.
